Meerkats at the Fort Worth Zoo
General Animal information:The meerkat are fearless when they come upon larger animals.  Most meerkats live in solitary. But live in packs of six or so. Each of the meerkats in a group has a personal duty, relating to the pack.
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

Body Structure:  Constructed of a small body, the meerkat has a long tail that is used for balance. The meerkat also have small ears with flaps so when it digs the sand doesn't encounter the ear. Food : Meerkats are of the  carnivore family.
They eat snakes and other small animals.
They eat with their sharp teeth , so they don't they spend much time killing their food.

 

Shelter/Habitat: The Meerkat lives in the deserts of Africa. They dig burrows in the ground that serves as a nursery for their children. 
 
 

 

Relationship with other animals : Most meerkats live solitary, so they don't spend much time with animals. But some animals live next to them such as, the Lamer Falcon , and the Martail Eagles who are moderately dangerous and feed on the meerkats.
Important Additional Facts: The Honey Badger shares the same food as the meerkat.

Zoo Habitat Requirements: The zoo habitat should be sand (desert design)  and a Large underground burrow. Zoo Observations: My animal was not at the Houston Zoo.
