Credit By Exam Information
What are credit by exams?
Credit by exams are elective tests taken for the purpose of skipping an elementary grade level or secondary course. Your campus counselor is the best person to provide guidance on whether credit by exam is a good option for your student.
Please note that there are three major changes that affect credit by exam this year.
- New math tests for grades 5-8 will reflect changes to the state math standards (TEKS). This will make the credit by exams for these grade levels more difficult than in the past. The new math standards can be accessed at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/
- Legislation passed in 2013 changed the score required for students to skip a grade level or course from 90% to 80%. This applies to testing in grades 1-12.
- The new legislation requires that credit by exams for courses with End of Course Exams(EOCs) meet specific new criteria. These requirements could not be met by any of the providers of credit by exams by this summer. Therefore, no tests are available in 2014 for the following courses: Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, U.S. History.
To access an application, go to www.csisd.org and click on the Parent Info tab. You will see Creditby Exam listed in the drop-down of this tab. The Elementary Application is for students entering Kindergarten through grade 4. The Secondary Application is for students entering grade 5 and above.
